Australian Bush Poetry Classics by Jack Drake
"It is time to re-kindle our "Spirit of Australia"
says Jack Drake, award winning Bush Poet and
author of historical books. The larrikin, Australian
personality was being formed at a time when our Bush
Poetry began. The early masters like Paterson, Ogilvie
and Lawson painted pictures and incidents of the day with their stories in verse which have survived to this day.
Jack has just launched a CD called "Australian Bush Poetry
Classics" in which he presents 12 very different pieces by these old masters including the favourite of them all "The Man from Snowy River" plus "Rio Grande's Last Race", "Shearing in the Bar", "An Old Master". "The Spirit of the West", "The Riding of the Rebel" and more.
He was 10 years old when he fell in love with the poems of Banjo Paterson and this fascination has continued throughout his life. He is now an award winning Bush Poet in his own right
with 3 CDs and a published book of his own works plus 2 historical books.
Jack performs this selection of work by the early masters in the way they were written to be heard - around the camp fire. They contain humour, drama, an early-day observation of land care, sentiment and pathos.
The CD has been produced in accompaniment with a Teacher's Package designed to aid teachers in sharing this unique style of literature in class. It contains the CD, a DVD on tips for performance plus a Teacher's Book of Notes with over 100 pages elaborating on the history and explanations of the poems and their authors.
Australian Bush Poetry has re-surfaced since our bi-centennial and the making of the movie "The Man from Snowy River". Jack and other modern Bush Poets perform regularly at festivals, breakfasts, dinners and are particularly popular with the Grey Nomads.
"Australian Bush Poetry Classics" the CD is available from Jack for $20 plus $2 postage, along with his other 3 CDs of his own works.
